What a fun weekend! My brother came down from Grand Haven to be my running partner in the Capital City Half Marathon. Neither one of us had very successful training runs for this race. I set out on a 10 mile run over a week ago and had to phone in a bail out to Drew at mile 6. So needless to say, we were both a little anxious. The night before brought massive thunderstorms and huge down pours. The sirens went off a couple times during dinner and I was a complete mess! I wanted to corral the children (Beauy and Sauce) and head to the basement but Troy and Drew ignored all the warning signs and kept eating their plates of spaghetti. Nothing bad happened (of course) except for the fact that when the rain stopped I looked outside to see that the top of my Jeep Wrangler had been down the entire time. There was an inch and a half of water in it. Awesome. So in honor of the April showers that have brought May flowers, I decided to post this photograph of the marina in Grand Haven. This was taken right after a massive thunderstorm had gone through.
I decided not to think about the mess that was waiting for me in the Jeep. I went to bed with visions of strong strides and steady breathing dancing in my head. We woke to a beautiful morning!! The temp was perfect, there were big poofy white clouds in the sky and the sun was shining. We also had a fantastic race. We both stuck together the entire time (I had to remind Troy to slow down a few times in the beginning) but that helped us to conserve our energy for a very strong finish. Our official time was 2:05:46 meaning we maintained a 9:36 minute mile!! I was very proud of us! I tried to hold Troy’s hand as we crossed the finish line, but he refused….little brothers!
I’ve fully recovered and feel pretty great. I’m spending the evening working on the rest of Becca, Corrin and Nolan’s photographs. So new pictures will be heading your way soon!
