Our First Time Home Buyer’s Story

Settle in….this is going to be a long one.

As some of you know, Drew and I have been in the process of purchasing our first home. YAY! It was all very exciting…especially because we initially thought we were going to purchase the town home that we are already living in. (NO MOVING! YAY!) We went into contract on the townhouse on Mithoff St in German Village. Long story short….it didn’t work out. I was heartbroken, however Drew was confident that we’d find something else. We started browsing through our MLS search looking for something that would catch our eye. I think I only wrote down three potential houses that I would even go look at. (I was still mentally purchasing Mithoff.) We started the house hunting day off by going to a house that was waaaaaay out of our price range, but in a nice neighborhood that we liked. Of course we fell in-love. We spent almost an hour at the walk through and Drew and I were already planning the layout of our furniture….which made us realize, we don’t have enough! Our fantastic Realtor told us she’d run some numbers and see what we could do. (If you are in the market to purchase a home…CALL HER!!! She’s AAAAHHH-mazing!!! She’s so patient, she handled all 5 of my panic attacks with gentle, soothing and calm reason. Her email is char.evansking@realliving.com…tell her I sent you!) A few short days later….we were IN CONTRACT (again!)!!!!

So now it’s time for the Home Inspection…I couldn’t wait to get back in the house. I took my camera and snapped a million photos. We met with Shad, our home inspector. (Call D&E Consultants, they are incredibly thorough and again….very patient. We asked him some crazy questions and he kept a straight face for most of them. :)) He inspected the house on Mithoff so we were long lost friends….we were also delighted to find out that he lives A FEW HOUSES AWAY from our new house!!! Fun, new neighbors!! So let me take you on a little tour: (Forgive my color balance in these photos, not only was I playing with camera settings, but I was also playing with a few new editing techniques. So things are a little miss-matched.)

So right away, we are pumped with the curb appeal (thank you HGTV for my savvy house terminology.) A little worried about the busy street that it’s on, but we’re close to a red light and that slows down most of the traffic. My new studio room is located on the back of the house. And that front porch…can’t wait for our first porch party!! All the neighbors are invited!

So now we go inside…..

I love the little sunroom!!! I’d also love to put Drew’s (HUGE) tv there. (I like big tv’s but they pose such a decorating problem.) We’re still discussing our options. 🙂

So from the sunroom you can circle back into the Kitchen…I really liked the kitchen!!

And that takes us upstairs!!! You can see the bathroom in the first right hand corner picture. I didn’t take more because it needs a little work. I’ll do a before and after photo after we move in!

Sooooooo, that’s just about it! We do have some work to do on the back of the house. We want to build a deck (it doesn’t have one) and we need some kind of shed to keep outdoorsy things in. Eventually we hope to build a garage (that’s on Drew’s to do list!) but other than that, we are move-in ready!! We love the neighborhood – it’s in Clintonville – and we’re very close to the Olentangy Trail (which I run on with the little furry beast.) We’re pretty close to a park but I’m not sure how dog friendly it is, so we have some exploring to do.

Now the waiting game commences. Everything looks like we will move forward with out any problems….but I won’t be convinced until we close and I have the keys in my hands. Toooo many other obstacles have come up on this journey and it makes me a little cynical. Maybe not cynical, just weary. Drew has had “a feeling” about this house ever since we saw it on the MLS listing…and so far he’s been exactly right. Thank you, honey, for being so patient with me, for giving me Tylenol PM when all I could do was dream about houses and toss and turn, for holding my hand and saying “it will be allright” even when we both weren’t really sure. You’re the best and I can’t WAIT to start this next chapter in our crazy little lives together. 🙂

Thanks for letting me share!!
