Yesterday was monumental!! Drew and I went out to pick out our very first Christmas Tree!!
You could tell we were rookies from a mile away. We started our quest at Lowe’s. Where we stood in the Christmas aisle dazed and confused. I had no idea where to start. So I asked the nice looking couple next to me….”How many strands of lights does it take to decorate your average Christmas Tree?” And from there Drew and I received our first lesson in Christmas Decorating 101: No matter how hard you try…you will make additional trips back to Lowe’s. We learned about LED lights, commercial grade lights, icicle lights….and every other kind of light you can imagine. After we purchased 800 Constant-On (my life is busy enough without twinkling lights) Christmas Clear Lights, we ventured out to look for a tree. We already plan on returning half of the lights to Lowe’s.
We stopped at three different places looking for the perfect artificial tree. My! They are expensive! And everywhere we went, they were out of stock. (Since it was 60 degrees and sunny yesterday, apparently everyone wanted to get their trees and decorate.) At our wits end…we ventured to the Outdoor Garden at Anderson’s General Store. There, I received my second lesson in Christmas Decorating 101: Real trees are super cheap!!! I quickly Googled on my Blackberry if it was safe to have a real tree in a house with a real kitty. (As long as they don’t eat tinsel, you’re fine.) And 10 minutes later we are driving the Faithful Explorer home stuffed with out first Christmas Tree!!
The tree has been up now for almost 24 hours and Sasha has not gotten in it once!! I’m so proud of her! Especially since every year before this, she’s scaled every artificial tree she has come in contact with. Drew did catch her knawing on a strand of lights, but she cut that out pretty quickly. Beau is totally uninterested in everything that is going on in the house. He’s still exhausted from Thanksgiving activities. So in honor of her outstanding behavior….kitty is first up on the blog today.
Thanks to Drew’s mother for allllll of our decorations. I wasn’t going to do much this year until Drew arrived home from a trip to Sistersville completely stocked with decorations!! My favorites were these sparkly globes. They look like mini disco balls!
I even decorated our staircase since I had so much stuff! Drew finally put a cap on things that I can put out….which included no more pink. He was such a great helper, I complied without much complaint. I also didn’t re-arrange every ornament he put on the tree. (Just most of them.)
This is going up the staircase….LOVE IT!!
I did take updated photographs of our living room as well and the lights outside! Hopefully I can get those up tonight!
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
