If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you’ve seen more than one tweet or status update involving the love of my life. Drew is forever supplying me with my regular dose of laughter, horrific stories from the ICU/burn unit, sports and music trivia, Christoper Walken or Sean Connery impersonations, a big hug or a lost house hold item…just to name a few. He’s also my motivation to hit the pavement or go to the gym with him. I love him more than anything.
That is why I was especially excited for him when he walked through the door with his brand new toy. A Gibson Les Paul guitar (did I say that right, honey?) that he got from Craig’s List that is in perfect condition. I’m by far NOT the rockstar in this family. (As much as I think that I am.) I love to listen to Drew play the guitar and I love it even more when he sings. He learned the song “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown Band and surprised me with it one day….cue the melting hearts! I think he was as equally excited for this toy as he was the night WVU beat Pitt over Thanksgiving. I hope that last sentence gave all of my WVU fans goosebumps….it did for me!
So I invaded his space up in the attic to get a few photographs of him with his baby.
He pointed out to me that it was made in the USA. I thought “Oh wow! He’s being so patriotic!” Later to find out that means something special to musicians…what that is, I’m not sure. Better quality? Again, more proof that I’m not the rockstar.
Just to reiterate, Drew is not a huge fan of my camera. I’ve been asking for FOREVER if he’d let me take a few photographs of him. Maybe some of us together? I never get my way, so when I was up in the attic, I was a little surprised by the request “get a shot of my amp too!”
As you can see, there are still no photographs of him. I don’t push the matter too much, because not everyone is comfortable in front of my huge, beautiful new lens. (Had to mention it! Drew got a new toy, so I got one too.)
Now I do have one great photograph of Drew that tells a very funny story. Drew and I love to cook together. We watch the Food Network and then try to recreate some of the masterpieces that we see on TV. Lately we’ve been addicted to old school Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares. I love to squeal in disgust over some of the things he finds in these yucky restaurants. But he always manages to turn things around with a new menu and updated decor. The man is a genius. One dish that we wanted to try was a simple broccoli soup. It’s just boiled broccoli in chicken stock, pureed with a little bit of salt and pepper. The color is beautiful!
We started in the kitchen by boiling the broccoli. I got out our blender and set it on the counter. When I turned around, I saw that Drew had loaded the blender to the max with broccoli straight out of the boiling pot along with the chicken stock.
Me: “Honey, I think that’s a little full.”
Drew: “It’s fine…I do this all the time.”
Me: “Remember what happened on Chopped? That guy put hot liquid in the blender and it exploded.”
Drew: “I’m not like that *&#($*% & on Chopped. It will be fine. Promise!” with a smile.
Me: “Well thank goodness you’re not like that &%#$@%! on Chopped.”
I love you sweetie. We found broccoli in places I didn’t even know existed in our kitchen. Laughing and cooking is one of the best combos. BTW, the soup turned out fantastic!! Try it!
Just a simple peek into the man that makes me smile…each and every single day. I’m one of the luckiest girls around who is often serenaded by a talented musician and still finding broccoli splatters in her kitchen.
