I find it hard to believe that two weeks and one day have gone by since Drew and I got engaged. It is amazing how many times you can change your mind, change your date, change your venue, change your colors, change your menu, change your location, change your date again, go back to your original location, and decide that wedding planning isn’t all it’s cracked up to be in two weeks and one day. Here are a couple things that we’ve accomplished (thus far):
We have a date!!
I’m SHOCKED at how “on top of things” these 2011 brides are. Every venue that even entered my mind for consideration is booked on June 25, 2011. So being the extremely flexible girl that I am, we switched it to Friday. (And I also have a sneaky suspicion that it might pour the rain on the 25th next year; that would prove the old saying “everything happens for a reason” quite true.)I’m actually very excited about this new development. Since this wedding is going to be rather small and mostly just family, everyone will be traveling from out of town. The good thing is that after the wedding is over, we can all relax, visit, celebrate, enjoy the beach and each other on Saturday (as long as it doesn’t rain!). I’m liking this!! It’s more of a vacation for everyone. Yay! Bonus Points for “everything happens for a reason.”
After choosing the date, Drew and I both chose our wedding parties. I wanted to ask my girls in a very special way. This wedding is going to be all about the details. So I thought it would be nice to kick it off with a one-of-a-kind bridesmaid invite. Here is what I came up with….
When was the last time you made a paper doll chain? I did it one week ago…and believe me I was out of practice. It took forrrrever. (But you were worth it girls!) I went to Michael’s to see what kind of goodies I could get. This was the first time I’d ever been into Michael’s as a “bride”. (I’ve always avoided all things “bride-y” because I didn’t want to jinx anything.) So I went to the bridal section with this feeling of euphoria. This euphoric feeling was immediately destroyed because I was so overwhelmed by all things that are “wedding” at Michael’s! Really? It was craaaazy!
I was actually so confused in there that I made my first bride-to-be mistake. I bought something completely worthless. I wanted to feel like a victorious bride on her first trip to Michael’s, so I bought the first thing that I saw….a package of wedding napkins that say “i do” and the “o” is an engagement ring. And I didn’t buy just one pack. I bought 4 packs of 50, which is 200 for those that are tired from the Holiday weekend. I then went to the scrapbooking section, got the paper that I needed for my invites and got the heck outta there. Upon my return home, I was getting all of my treasures out to show Drew. He asked why I had gotten the wedding napkins. I couldn’t even come up with a good lie. There is NO reason I should have bought 200 “i do” napkins. Really? Do you need specific “i do” napkins? Why not plain napkins? I’m returning them first thing on Tuesday. First trip to Michael’s to browse for wedding things = small failure. But I’m up for trying again. 🙂
Now I say that it was a small failure, because I did pick up something neat. My wax seal kit! I love monograms. So don’t be surprised when you see the monogram “D” everywhere and all over this blog. I think it was an excuse to play with fire, but I ended up loving the look. I sealed the bridesmaid envelopes with it. I don’t think I’m going to stick with the script “D” but it’s a start.
So I hope my girls were excited with their invites. I loved how it introduced the entire bridal party and that it was customized with their own hair color. I can’t take all the credit for this idea. My mom sent it to me from one of our favorite new wedding sites. It’s called Once Wed and it’s fabulous. See the DIY Bridesmaid cards here. Give credit where credit is due.
I asked Drew if he wanted me to make little paper doll-men chains for his groomsmen. He said no. Lame.
But what is so very not lame is this: Drew asked his father to be his best man. On Father’s Day. Awesome!
