And “they” were right. I’d have to say that the week leading up to the B.I.G. day went rather slowly and was full of miscues, meltdowns, a spill or two and one trip to Urgent Care…but once Friday June, 24th arrived, there was no slowing it down.
It really was everything that we wanted it to be….x 1,000,000. We will never be able to thank our wonderful parents enough for giving us the beautiful and most special day of our lives. Oh and do I need to warn you…this will be a long post. The photography by Karen from K2 is stunning! You are in for a treat!
My wedding day started off exactly how I wanted it to. Waking up at my parent’s home and coming downstairs to a beautiful kitchen full of makeup, my best friends and champagne. What girl wouldn’t want to wake up that way?
I think the getting ready part might have been one of my favorite parts of the day. I have three. And this is on the list. We put Adele on Pandora to start off the morning and popped our first bottle as we each took turns in the makeup and hair chairs. One of my dearest and most trusted make up artists and friends Christina (aka Tina Jean, XTina, I’ll leave her naughty nick names out and keep this PG) made me up for the day and evening.
Kortney from Renue Salon & Day Spa transformed my hair. Loved. It.
Two surprises made my morning extra special.
My family from far away…
And a love note from the one I was to marry…
The details that Karen from K2 captured still floor me. Karen…bravo.
My grandmother Dee’s napkin rings from her wedding day.
Thanks Emma Kate for keeping things light…
And then it was time to get dressed…
These photos make me cry all over again. The first men in my life who taught me how to love and be loved.
And then comes favorite moment number two. The First Look. I will say this again…not as Megan The Photographer. But Megan The Bride. If you haven’t considered this…I truly believe it is the only way to go. Not only did the First Look capture every emotion between Drew and I seeing each other for the first time. (Amazing job K2!) But it was an opportunity for the two of us to spend time alone together before we shared our day with the rest of our family and friends. I wouldn’t trade this time for anything. And although our location was AH-mazing!!! It did destroy my hair – high winds off of Lake Michigan…but totally worth it.
After our tears and anxiety were out and over…we rejoined our amazing bridal party for a little bit of laughter
Flowers by Eastern Floral in Grand Haven, MI.
My bouquet was hand made by my beautiful mother in law.
And here is my third favorite moment: Waiting to go down the aisle with my daddy. I’ll never forget it. We laughed…said a few I love yous. And he made me feel safe. We waited for Trumpet Tune to start playing from the organ and off we went…we came around the corner and I was overwhelmed by the packed church. I saw Aunt Lori first and seeing her face and smile made me feel calm. After walking what might be the longest aisle in Grand Haven…we finally made our way to Drew.
Mission accomplished! Oh and look…the sun came out!
And now…we eat, drink, and be married!
This was an all out DIY kind of wedding. And by “yourself” I mean…my amazing mother!!
Every flower was hand crafted! They were made from paper and hand painted by my mother. We had seen paper flowers trending on blogs and wedding magzines in 2010 and when my mother said she’d give it a go…I never dreamed that she would end up making over 1,500 paper roses! They were breathtaking!! They were a work of art!
Introducing Mr. & Mrs. Danser!
I’ve always had a fear of cutting the wedding cake (in our case…pie) and you can clearly tell by my face that I was hesitant.
We should have practiced!
Our wedding pie was Coconut Creme Pie and we had seven other pie flavors in mini jars for every one else to choose from. I’d say they were a hit since we saw people walking away from the dessert table with more than one jar in their hands. 🙂 Ellen from Desserts by Design is amazing!
Drew’s dad Richard was his best man. His heartfelt toast made us all a little weepy.
And it just kept going when Emily took the stage…
Drew and I have never felt so blessed and lucky and loved in our entire lives.
To our family and friends who traveled near and far…we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for celebrating and sharing in our joy and happiness on our wedding day. We are still smiling when we think of that special day and will for the rest of our lives together.
