I need more surprise proposals in my life!!!! You guyssss. This. Was. Amazing. It was an incredible honor to be a part of. And I will be the first one to admit…I was sooo nervous!!! I called my only partner in crime Jenny to help me catch the perfect moment. And to help me look a little less suspicious as I wondered aimlessly around Slate Run park over analyzing every single person there (is that them? No.) while also trying to hide my two huge cameras.
See, Josh and I had been in cahoots for weeks. He told me that Heather had mentioned how sweet it was when a proposal was photographed. So immediately, I start thinking…”she will see my camera and KNOW! I will totally blow it!” But really….that doesn’t happen. It never does. When you are out with your family, boyfriend, husband, we casually take in the other people around us, but we don’t make these dramatic leaps to not-so-obvious conclusions. And how ridiculously ADORABLE is that Josh picked up on what she mentioned about the photographers and made it happen. This guy loves her so much.
So let me set the scene…after walking around the park with Jenny. We found the spot that Josh had mentioned (confirmed with texts, photos and a screen shot of me pointing at a map to clarify we were in the right spot!) We went to my car to wait it out. When we saw them pull in to the parking lot we got soooooooooo excited. I’m talking school girls squealing in the car. While also trying not to look at them too much.
Josh & Heather went for a stroll through the park. While Jenny and I hid in the woods. Josh chose this location, because Heather grew up in Pickerington and took field trips to the Living Historical Farm throughout her childhood. They have a tradition of stopping at a stone bench along the fence line and taking a photo with the self timer on their iPhone. Sounds perrrrrrrfect doesn’t it?!? Genius Josh told me that as they were heading back to the car, they would stop for their photo. As she was setting up the camera, he’d get down on one knee. Is your heart racing? My heart was beating OUT OF MY CHEST as this was happening. Like I could hear it in my ears.
I heard her say “Are you serious?!” And then alllll the tears started falling. From Heather. From me. And from Jenny. We were all a sniffling mess. And we hadn’t even introduced ourselves yet. 😉
The smiles!!!! Oh the smiles that followed!!! If I could shoot every engagement session immediately following the proposal I’d never work for a smile again!
You guys!!! Congrats!! Congrats!! Mazel! Mazel!! I know Jenny and I were on cloud nine for the rest of the day. I hope you two are still in the clouds. Thank you for trusting me with this incredible task, Josh. It was such an honor. There are a lot of guys out there that have big shoes to fill. 😉
